Planning the test around a Langara College application

The English test is the only part of this application that is entirely within your control and entirely on your own schedule, which makes it the wrong thing to leave until last — and the thing most applicants leave until last.

• Work backwards from the deadline, not forwards from today. Langara College's typical deadline is Rolling admission. Results take time to issue and longer to be received and processed, and a resit needs a free slot plus another wait. Two clear months before the deadline is a working minimum for a first attempt; three if you want a resit to remain possible.

• Do not book on a good practice day. Book when you are hitting the target consistently, including in your weakest section. A single strong mock is noise; three in a row is a signal.

Langara College runs Fall (Sep) and Winter (Jan) and Spring (May) intakes. If you miss the English requirement for one, the honest options are usually to take the next intake with a better score or to apply elsewhere with the score you have — a conditional offer with an English condition attached still requires you to meet it, and the pre-sessional English courses that sometimes substitute for it carry their own fees and their own entry bar.
