IELTS One Skill Retake Calculator & Guide (2026)
Should you retake one IELTS skill — and which one? Enter your scores to see the fastest way to your target band, plus everything One Skill Retake does and doesn't allow.
⚡ Quick answer: IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) lets you retake one section (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking) instead of the whole test, on computer-delivered IELTS only, within 60 days of your original test. You get a new Test Report Form — but not every institution accepts OSR, so confirm first.
🎯 Which one skill should you retake?
Enter your four section scores and your target overall band. The tool shows the score you'd need on a retake of each skill — and which single retake actually reaches your target.
How IELTS One Skill Retake works
- One skill only: retake Listening, Reading, Writing OR Speaking — just one, once, per full test.
- Computer-delivered only: your original test must have been IELTS on computer, at a centre that offers OSR (selected centres/countries).
- 60-day window: you must sit the retake within 60 days of your full test — this covers both booking and taking it.
- New Test Report Form: you receive a fresh TRF with the improved skill plus your other three original scores.
- Cheaper than a full retake: roughly a quarter of the full fee (about INR 12,650 in India at the time of writing — confirm the current amount with your centre).
The catch: check acceptance first
IELTS itself advises confirming that the organisation you're applying to accepts a One Skill Retake result before you book. Many universities do, but some — and several visa/immigration routes — still require a single full IELTS sitting. A quick email to the admissions or visa office saves you a wasted retake.
How to book
- Confirm your original test was computer-delivered and your centre offers One Skill Retake.
- Check the receiving university/authority accepts OSR.
- Use the calculator above to pick the single skill that reaches your target.
- Book through IDP or British Council within 60 days of your full test.
