Why New Zealand

New Zealand offers a globally respected degree (Auckland, Waikato, Canterbury, Victoria Wellington), an easy post-study work pathway, and a relatively fast-track PR route via the Skilled Migrant Category. Tuition and living costs sit between Australia and the UK.

Student visa — key requirements

You need an offer letter from a New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)-approved provider, proof of funds covering tuition plus NZD 15,000–20,000 per year for living, health insurance, and a return ticket or evidence of funds for one. English proof: IELTS 6.0–6.5 or equivalent depending on the programme.

Funds and cost

Tuition: NZD 22,000–35,000 per year for most postgraduate courses. Auckland is the most expensive city; Christchurch and Dunedin are significantly cheaper. All up, budget NZD 35,000–55,000 (roughly ₹17–27 lakh) per year before any part-time income.

Post-study work visa (PSWV)

Graduates of a New Zealand qualification can get a 3-year open work visa (Post Study Work Visa) if the programme was at least 30 weeks at NZQF Level 7+. This is one of the most generous post-study windows globally, and you can work for any employer, in any role, anywhere in New Zealand.

Pathway to PR

After working in New Zealand for 12–24 months post-study, many graduates qualify for the Skilled Migrant Category points-based residency visa. A high English score (IELTS 6.5+) adds points to your selection profile.

English prep

Most NZ universities want IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall. Practise free on LandingPrep's IELTS mock tests to lock in your target band before registration.
