Singapore hosts two consistently top-20 global universities: NUS (National University of Singapore) and NTU (Nanyang Technological University). English is the medium of instruction, there is no language barrier, the city is extremely safe, and its location makes it a hub for internships and careers across Southeast Asia. The government-funded scholarship system is generous for top students.
Tuition fees 2026
International tuition: NUS and NTU charge roughly SGD 17,000–35,000 per year depending on the programme. Engineering, Computing and Business are at the higher end; Arts and Social Sciences lower. The Singapore government offers a tuition grant scheme that lowers fees significantly in exchange for a 3-year work commitment in Singapore post-graduation — many Indian students take this.
Living costs
Budget SGD 1,200–1,800/month for living. On-campus housing is significantly cheaper (SGD 350–700/month). Singapore is expensive but transport is world-class and affordable. All in: SGD 25,000–45,000 per year (roughly ₹16–28 lakh).
Student's Pass (visa)
You apply for a Student's Pass through ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) after receiving an offer. Processing takes 4–8 weeks. You need proof of enrolment, financial ability, and a medical examination. The pass is tied to your programme duration.
Work rights and PR pathway
Full-time work during the semester is not permitted for most international students. Part-time work (up to 16 hours/week during term) is allowed. After graduation, the Employment Pass or Tech.Pass lets high-skilled graduates work in Singapore. PR is possible after 2–3 years of employment, though the path is competitive.
English score requirements
NUS and NTU accept IELTS (typically 6.0–6.5) or TOEFL (85–90). Many Indian students with CBSE/ICSE schooling get waived. Practise free on LandingPrep and use the free college predictor to shortlist Singapore programmes matching your profile.
