Planning the test around a Cornell University application

The English test is the only part of this application that is entirely within your control and entirely on your own schedule, which makes it the wrong thing to leave until last — and the thing most applicants leave until last.

• Work backwards from the deadline, not forwards from today. Cornell University's typical deadline is Feb 1 (Fall). Results take time to issue and longer to be received and processed, and a resit needs a free slot plus another wait. Two clear months before the deadline is a working minimum for a first attempt; three if you want a resit to remain possible.
